Die finnische Progressive-Death-Metal-Supergroup BARREN EARTH veröffentlicht am 30. März bei Century Media ihr neues Album „A Complex Of Cages“. Daraus wurde nun ‚Withdrawal‘ ausgekoppelt. Drummer Marko Tarvonen meint hierzu: „BARREN EARTH wurden immer als Death Metal oder Prog kategorisiert. Mit ‚Withdrawal‘ wollten wir etwas machen, was sich keinem von beidem zuordnen lässt. Stattdessen ist es eine sich langsam aufbauende Rockballade mit minimaler Instrumentation, damit sich Jóns Stimme entfalten konnte.“

BARREN EARTH, bestehend aus aktuellen und ehemaligen Mitgliedern solch illustrer Kapellen wie MOONSORROW, AMORPHIS, KREATOR, OCTOBER FALLS oder CLOUDS, haben gerade eine Europatour mit INSOMNIUM absolviert, da juckt es dem Kollektiv schon wieder in den Fingern. Laut ihrem Label Century Media befindet sich die Band gerade in den Vorbereitungen zu den Aufnahmen eines neuen Studioalbums, das dem 2015er „On Lonely Towers“ nachfolgen soll. Weitere Details stehen noch nicht fest, dafür gibt es hier die O-Töne zweier Mitglieder und des Produzenten V.Santura (DARK FORTRESS/TRIPTYKON):

Vocalist Jón: „We are working towards a darker and more aggressive feel, which we attempt to express both experimentally and with a good dose of blunt force!“

Basser Oppu: „The melodic and melancholic side is naturally still there, but spiced with a touch of anger and groove. I’m also looking forward of working with Victor, since we all appreciate his previous work. It also is the first time Barren Earth works with a proper producer, and are very excited about the idea of bringing somebody else into the mix and seeing where that takes us.“

V. Santura: „I am really excited about working with Barren Earth! The guys are fantastic musicians and the demo material I’ve heard so far sounds very promising.“
